Send your friends pictures of the moon
-
A simple way to say
I know I am over here,
and you are way over there,
but I see you, this early morning.
In all your shining.
-
And they
may send you a picture back.
Of that same moon,
but from their own world -
just over the hill, maybe
or a continent away.
-
The same moon,
the same morning.
-
We cannot see each others face,
but we can each turn our faces skyward -
and be reflected
by the same moonlight,
just for a moment.
-
Our own personal
satellite connection -
no Starlink involved.
Just your face,
the moon,
and my face.
-
Drawing a triangle
of comfort and care,
yearning and trepidation.
Your face, to the moon, to my face.
Same morning,
different worlds.
-
I see you,
and I'm thinking of you,
and I know how hard you try,
and here is a picture of the moon.
-
To remind you
that I'm here -
in my own swamp of everything,
but also
looking up,
and beaming at you.
-
Via this satellite
who is not yet owned -
who has always been a part of us,
and who endures with us, though every turning.
-
Send your friends pictures of the moon
to help keep them whole.
A moment of pause
in an age of poly-crisis.
We are both still here,
and I see you -
and sometimes,
that's all I have.

Send your friends pictures of the moon.

To Maria, and to Beth, and to Anneke - for all the moon pictures, sometimes with helpful arrows.
I love this idea. I think I will do it when I next see the moon. I wonder if anyone will send me one back. I do often message my adult children and tell them to go outside and look at the moon because I am looking at it and we will be connected.
